The advertised teaching programme has been cancelled. Instead we will be streaming live weekly teaching classes lasting one hour and short guided meditation classes lasting 30 min. Please register for the classes using the links below.

Our teacher is Gen. Kelsang Chodor. He has been resident teacher at Heart Jewel centre for over 9 years. As a close disciple of Gehse Kelsang for nearly 25 years, and an ordained monk for 15 years he has a wealth of experience and understanding to share. His goal is to make all the teachings available during these critical times so that people can find practical solutions to all their daily problems.

Practical Solutions to Challenging Times
Wednesdays 7 – 8.15 pm and Saturdays 3 – 4.15 pm £5 (free to Centre Card holders)
These one and quarter hour sessions will include teachings with simple and practical solutions to every day problems. This will be followed by a guided meditation to help us become calm and take the teachings to heart. The sessions will allow for questions and answers at the end. When Are You Happiest? – a closer look at the things that make you truly happy in daily life.
Relying on a Happy Mind – everyday matters so we need to manage low mood and depression.
Constant Craving – recognize this problem? How to free ourself from all the mental pain caused by uncontrolled desire.
Perfect Refuge – how to create authentic inner refuge in our mind to protect us from our daily problems.
Learning Not to Retaliate – how to use compassion to overcome our anger and natural tendencies to retaliate to harm by hitting back.
Letting Go of Your Troubles – if we see momentary impermenance all around us we will liberate ourself from all the worries and cravings that normally fill our lives.
A Life Less Ordinary – a double class explaining the unique meditations Buddha taught in his Tantric teachings.

A Profound Patience – if we understand that nothing is independent but arises from causes and conditions we can develop a very deep and profound experince of patience.

Free Guided Daily Meditations (ideal for beginners)
Tuesday 12.00 – 12.30 pm OR Thursday 9.00 – 9.30 pm
Lunch time and late guided meditations to help you be calm and positive. Discover the inner power in each of us to remain positive and happy during even the most difficult times. A great way to taste meditation and get a feeling for its benefits. Meditation will help overcome daily problems like worry, low mood and feelings of loneliness. No reason not to give it a try.

It is suitable for children aged 5 – 12 years.

This is a fun and child focused class that will help children engage with meditation. We will first learn why we meditate and then have a go. These techniques help children to improve concentration and develop an inner calm. In the first class we will be looking at the kind heart through an understanding of how we are all interconnect in a web of kindness. In the second class we will look at the power of imagination in growing a mind of love.

Prayers for Liberation from Sorrow
Fridays 10.00 – 11.00 am (no fee but feel free to donate to charity)
Praises and requests to the twenty–one Taras. During challenging times we need to turn to our spiritual mother, Tara for refuge. She protects us from all our external and internal dangers, she provides us with all the necessary conditions for spiritual growth, and she guides and inspires us with her powerful blessings. Beginners welcome.
The Prayers will start with a short introduction by our resident teacher, Kelsang Chodor.

On 8th day of each month NKT Centres throughout the world will engage in a very special practice – 24-hour Tara Chanting. A new way of living - rooms available for rent
Heart Jewel Kadampa Buddhist Centre was established in November 2007 by the fully qualified meditation master, Venerable Geshe Kelsang Gyatso. It is a registered charity (1124913) aiming to promote meditation and other Buddhist practices in modern society in order to increase happiness and well-being..
Located in the heart of the beautiful Derbyshire Dales, the Centre provides a peaceful and inspiring environment dedicated to inner and outer peace where anyone can visit, relax and learn about meditation and Buddhism. We also run out-reach classes in Ashbourne, Belper, Wirksworth and Chesterfield.
All our teachings are taken from the Kadmapa Buddhist Tradition, as presented by the renowned teacher, Geshe Kelsang Gyatso.
Our classes and events are open to everyone ragardless of sex, race and religion. Everyone can benefit from these classes, you don’t have to be a Buddhist.
We emphasise the practical application of meditation and mindfulness in normal daily life.

- Actions for Happiness – building lives around positve actions such as generosity and patience that boost happiness and benefit others.
- Improving Relationships – building love and compassion in all our relationships, overcoming feelings of lonliness and isolation.
- In-depth Buddhism – explanation of the complete path to Enlightenment.
The practice of meditation and mindfulness will make the mind peaceful and positive. If our mind is peaceful we shall be free from worries and mental discomfort, and so we shall experience true happiness.
By improving and controlling our mind it is possible to experience a positive mind, without having to depend at all upon external conditions.
The feeling of contentment and well-being will help us cope with the busyness and problems of daily life. We shall naturally feel warm and well disposed towards others, and our relationships with others will gradually improve.
