Revised Teaching Programme

The advertised teaching programme has been cancelled. Instead we will be streaming live weekly teaching classes lasting one hour and short guided meditation classes lasting 30 min. Please register for the classes using the links below.

Our teacher is Gen. Kelsang Chodor. He has been resident teacher at Heart Jewel centre for over 9 years. As a close disciple of Gehse Kelsang for nearly 25 years, and an ordained monk for 15 years he has a wealth of experience and understanding to share. His goal is to make all the teachings available during these critical times so that people can find practical solutions to all their daily problems.

Practical Solutions to Challenging Times

Wednesdays 7 – 8 pm and Saturdays 3 – 4 pm £5 (free to Centre Card holders)

These one hour sessions will include teachings with simple and practical solutions to every day problems. This will be followed by a guided meditation to help us become calm and take the teachings to heart. The sessions will allow for questions and answers at the end. Rely on Gratitude – Gratitude has great power to heal stressful situations such as illness. Do not loose sight of the positive aspects in your life. Think what our difficulties are teaching us and be grateful

Dealing with Anxiety – how to prevent anxiety and worry from taking over our mind when life seems to be spiralling out of control.

Breathe Calm – learn how to keep a peaceful and contented mind all the time using breathing meditation.

Solutions to Stress – stress exists in the mind so if we can control your mind you can keep a peaceful mind even when bad things are happening.

Dealing with Loneliness – how to connect with others during isolation by thinking about kindness.

Healing Energy – utilize the power of compassion to heal sickness.

Healing & Hope – the transformative power of meditation – We all have to deal with sickness of body and mind at one time or another. Following Buddhas timeless wisdom we can find practical methods to help us respond to these difficulties with a positive and peaceful mind. Practices such as meditation, patience and compassion will not only enable us to cope better,  but will also support our natural healing processes that can cure even the most serious sickness. Over this weekend we will stream six individual sessions containing practical advise on dealing with sickness. The teachings are given by Gen Chodor and Gen Sangye of Samudra Buddhist Centre in Buxton.

Healing Others – how to benefit those your love who are sick by taking away their suffering and bestowing peace.

Learning to Let Go – being seperated from our pleasures usually gives rise to pain. Learn how to dissolve away our attachments so that we can enjoy the here and now.

The Wheel of Life – how to make sense of life and death and understand its purpose.

Why is the World Hurting? – despite all the material progress, problems seem to be growing. What does this teach us about our selves and how we should build a better world.

Prayers for Liberation from Sorrow

Fridays 10.00 – 11.00 am (no fee but feel free to donate to charity)

Praises and requests to the twenty–one Taras. During challenging times we need to turn to our spiritual mother, Tara for refuge. She protects us from all our external and internal dangers, she provides us with all the necessary conditions for spiritual growth, and she guides and inspires us with her powerful blessings. Beginners welcome.

The Prayers will start with a short introduction by our resident teacher, Kelsang Chodor.

Gen. Chodor will explain the essential teachings of Modern Buddhism a book composed by the renowned meditation teacher, Geshe Kelsang Gyatso. Each class will include a guided meditation and practical advice on how to integrate the teachings into daily life. They are suitable for everyone. About Us

Heart Jewel Kadampa Buddhist Centre was established in November 2007 by the fully qualified meditation master, Venerable Geshe Kelsang Gyatso. It is a registered charity (1124913) aiming to promote meditation and other Buddhist practices in modern society in order to increase happiness and well-being..

Located in the heart of the beautiful Derbyshire Dales, the Centre provides a peaceful and inspiring environment dedicated to inner and outer peace where anyone can visit, relax and learn about meditation and Buddhism. We also run out-reach classes in Ashbourne, Belper, Wirksworth and Chesterfield.

Our Approach

Promoting happiness and well-being through the application of meditation, mindfulness and modern Buddhism to modern daily life.

All our teachings are taken from the Kadmapa Buddhist Tradition, as presented by the renowned teacher, Geshe Kelsang Gyatso.

Our classes and events are open to everyone ragardless of sex, race and religion. Everyone can benefit from these classes, you don’t have to be a Buddhist.

We emphasise the practical application of meditation and mindfulness in normal daily life.

Our Programme and Benefits

Our programme offers drop-in classes (ideal for beginners); courses and events; retreats (unguided and guided) and weekend study classes (enrolment required).

There are 8 main programme areas:

  • Introduction to Buddhism (Sutra and Tantra).
  • Meditation & Mindfulness for Beginners.
  • Positive Thinking – boosting and strengthening our good thoughts that increase peace of mind and well-being.
  • Protecting Mental Health – methods to reduce and abandon our negative thoughts and emotions such as anger and anxiety.
  • Transforming Lives – life skills for transforming adversity and stressful situations so as to prevent harm and unhappiness. How to respond wisely and peacefully to all difficulties.
  • Actions for Happiness – building lives around positve actions such as generosity and patience that boost happiness and benefit others.
  • Improving Relationships – building love and compassion in all our relationships, overcoming feelings of lonliness and isolation.
  • In-depth Buddhism – explanation of the complete path to Enlightenment.

The practice of meditation and mindfulness will make the mind peaceful and positive. If our mind is peaceful we shall be free from worries and mental discomfort, and so we shall experience true happiness.

By improving and controlling our mind it is possible to experience a positive mind, without having to depend at all upon external conditions.

The feeling of contentment and well-being will help us cope with the busyness and problems of daily life. We shall naturally feel warm and well disposed towards others, and our relationships with others will gradually improve.
