The New Eight Steps to Happiness


Take your meditation to the next level. The Foundation Programme is the ideal step after attending the drop-in classes. Students undertake a more systematic and thorough study of the subjects covered in Geshe La’s books.

How? You can participate in one of two ways. If you wish, you can attend the Sunday morning FP classes from 9am – 1pm with a break for brunch. These run approximately 20 times a year (2 to 3 classes a month, except January and August). Alternatively if you are unable to attend on Sunday’s you can study by correspondence by receiving an MP3 recording of each class. You can join anytime. Enjoy 2 free taster classes before you enroll.

Why study on FP? The new format has been designed to quickly deepen your understanding and experience of modern Buddhism and meditation. The programme functions to fulfill both your own and others wishes by increasing your wisdom and compassion. With wisdom and compassion we can solve all the problems we encounter in daily life.

What are we studying? You can join the programme at anytime. It is not necessary to start at the beginning of the book. In February we will began to study The New Eight Steps to Happiness – The Buddhist Way of Loving Kindness. 

This inspiring book explains how to meditate on eight beautiful verses that comprise one of Buddhism’s best loved teachings, Eight Steps for Training the Mind, composed by the great Tibetan Bodhisattva, Geshe Langri Tangpa, this short poem shows how we can transform all life’s difficulties into valuable spiritual insights.

All teachings are given by our resident teacher, Gen. Kelsang Chodor, who has been practising for over 19 years.

What is involved? The programme runs throughout the year with term breaks for holidays and festivals. Classes include prayers, guided meditations, teachings and discussion. Enrolment is required and students are encouraged to keep certain commitments. The fee for attending the classes is £30 per calendar month. Book up to 2 free taster classes before enrolment.

Resident Teacher

The teacher of this class is Kelsang Chodor. He has been resident teacher at Heart Jewel centre for over three years. As a close disciple of Gehse Kelsang for nearly 20 years, and an ordained monk for 10 years he has a wealth of experience and understanding to share. His goal is to make all the teachings available in a practical way so that people can integrate them into their daily lives.
