Meditation and Modern Buddhism
Inner Science
A 6 week meditation course in January & February
In Matlock Bath & Chesterfield
On this 6 week meditation course we will be introduced to the practices of Modern Buddhism – scientific methods for improving our human nature and qualities through developing the capacity of our mind.
The Course
What we will study
Modern Buddhism is a special presentation of Buddha’s teachings on compassion and wisdom that communicates their essence in a way that is easy to understand and put into practice. By developing and maintaining compassion and wisdom in daily life, we can transform our lives, improve our relationships with others, solve our daily problems and accomplish the real meaning of our human life.
Each week, our Resident Teacher and Kadampa Buddhist nun Gen Kelsang Osung will teach from this inspiring handbook of daily practice that is perfectly suited for those seeking solutions to the problems of everyday life, as well as for encouraging practitioners to deepen their understanding and practice of the spiritual path.

What to Expect
The classes are organised as short courses, usually around 3 or 4 weeks long and last just over an hour. You can attend the whole course or simply drop in whenever you can as each class is self-contained
You don’t need to bring anything with you and don’t need any previous experience of meditations or the class subjects. We sit on chairs for the class and meditations in a comfortable relaxed atmosphere; so all you need to do is turn up and enjoy.
We start all classes with the Liberating Prayer and a short guided breathing meditation to take ourselves away from the ordinary. You can join in or just listen to the prayer, it’s up to you.
We’ll then have some practical Buddhist teachings followed by a guided meditation based upon them; and finish with some advice on how to put the teachings into practise in daily life
If you have any questions, please get in touch via info@heartjewel.org.uk and we’ll be delighted to help
“The instructions given in this book are scientific methods for improving our human nature and qualities through developing the capacity of our mind. In recent years our knowledge of modern technology has increased considerably, and as a result we have witnessed remarkable material progress, but there has not been a corresponding increase in human happiness. There is no less suffering in the world today, and there are no fewer problems. Indeed, it might be said that there are now more problems and greater dangers than ever before. This shows that the cause of happiness and the solution to our problems do not lie in knowledge of material things. Happiness and suffering are states of mind and so their main causes are not to be found outside the mind. If we want to be truly happy and free from suffering, we must learn how to control our mind.”
