Inner protection

A 6 week meditation course in March & April

Chesterfield & Matlock Bath

On this 6 week meditation course we will contemplate meditation practices that function to enable us to make the most of our precious human life, as well as protecting us from suffering.

The Course

What we will study

Through following Buddha’s teachings on the preciousness of our human life, understanding what our death means, and how our actions are the causes of our experiences, we can learn how to protect ourself from both present and future suffering. By relying on these teachings and practices we can become our own protector.

Programme

  • Week 1: What is the real meaning of human life?
  • Week 2: How awareness of death enriches our life
  • Week 3: Avoiding future suffering
  • Week 4: Who can really protect us?
  • Week 5: Do you believe in karma?
  • Week 6: The truth about suffering

What to Expect

The classes are organised as short courses, usually around 3 or 4 weeks long and last just over an hour.  You can attend the whole course or simply drop in whenever you can as each class is self-contained

You don’t need to bring anything with you and don’t need any previous experience of meditations or the class subjects.  We sit on chairs for the class and meditations in a comfortable relaxed atmosphere; so all you need to do is turn up and enjoy.

We start all classes with the Liberating Prayer and a short guided breathing meditation to take ourselves away from the ordinary.  You can join in or just listen to the prayer, it’s up to you.

We’ll then have some practical Buddhist teachings followed by a guided meditation based upon them; and finish with some advice on how to put the teachings into practise in daily life

If you have any questions, please get in touch via info@heartjewel.org.uk and we’ll be delighted to help

“Many people believe that material development is the real meaning of human life, but we can see that no matter how much material development there is in the world it never reduces human suffering and problems. Instead, it often causes suffering and problems to increase; therefore it is not the real meaning of human life. We should know that at present we have reached the human world for just a brief moment from our former lives, and we have the opportunity to attain the supreme happiness of enlightenment through practising Dharma. This is our extraordinary good fortune.”
