Focused Retreat

The way to deepen your experience of meditation

 A retreat can last for one to five days. Each day typically consists of 4 sessions, two in the morning, one in the afternoon and 1 in the evening. This may vary depending on the retreat and day of the week.

Unfortuately we do not usually provide meals, however the are plenty of cafes near by.

There is no better way to give yourself a break from the daily routine and reassess your life, than by engaging in a meditation retreat.

Retreat provides an opportunity to gain deeper experience of meditation. On retreat we withdraw from our usual routine and structure our time and conditions so that we can get the most out of our meditation.

We offer a wide range of retreats suitable for people with all different levels of experience, from complete beginners to experienced practitioners.

Everyone is welcome.  You do not need to be a Buddhist to attend most of our retreats, or to benefit from the techniques taught. Sometimes however a retreat will be for experienced practitioners only (this will be clearly indicated).

Guided retreats will include short prayers to prepare our mind, a teaching and then a guided meditation. Sessions will last from 75 – 90 minutes. You are not required to come to all the sessions but come to as many as you can. Guided retreats usually charge a small fee (limited to max 5 people in each session). You can pay on-line using the booking cart.

Unguided retreats will include prayers and time for personal meditation and normally last 60-90 minutes. Normally on the first day of the retreat there is a teaching class for newcomers to learn what is involved. Unguided retreats are free and you can come to as many sessions as you like. You will need to register with us because places are limited to a maximum of 5 people.

Retreat sessions will not be recorded so you will have to attend the Centre in person. Guided meditation sessions have a small charge. Introductory classes will be streamed live using zoom and recorded for 3 day catch up.

Up to 5 people can attend in person but this is by appointment only so please contact the centre with plenty of notice.

Please pay in advance for individual guided sessions using the booking Cart. We accept paypal/cards or you can pay for a Centre Card and get access to all the classes for £20/month – see Membership Fees

On the day of the class we will send you an email with a link to the session.

We will be using the software ZOOM to broadcast the meeting. It is best to download the app Zoom to your computer or phone from the internet. It is free and easy to register your account. 

When you click on the link we have sent you it will automatically open the session for you. Please check that your audio microphone is switched on. If you need to contact us during the session please use the CHAT function within ZOOM.

In summary:

– Pay & Sign up for classes well in advance

– Make sure you have ZOOM on your computer/phone

– Arrange a quiet place at home for the livestream meditation class

– Click on the link we send you 15 min before the start

– Get comfy if you can, loose fitting clothes are best for meditation

– Have a pen and paper handy for notes and writing down questions

On 4th July the Centre was reopened for classes and study programmes (maximum 5 people). If you wish to attend a teaching in person rather than via zoom please contact the Centre before hand to register for a place. Only come if you receive a confirmation by email. Also please read our Covid-19 Guidance for Visitors before attending.

To register please pay in full using the booking cart. Payments by Paypal and Credit Card are accepted. We will automatically receive details of your payment with your email address. We will use this contact address to forward your link for the teaching.

Alternatively you can purchase a Centre Card for £20/month (you can cancel anytime) which gives you free access for all classes except special events and the Study Programme. If you have a Centre card you still need to use the booking system to register for a place.

Spiritual practices such as meditation are methods to improve the nature and capacity of our mind to be peaceful. They are only effective, however, if we have an abundant collection of positive and inspiring energy in our mind. Learn 2 powerful methods for accumulating this energy so that our meditations will have the power to make the mind peaceful.

The retreat will start with a short talk by Gen. Chodor in the morning followed by 5 days of unguided retreat sessions. The function of meditation is to build the foundations for inner peace in our mind. Our actions however will be seriously obstructed by the negativity in our mind from our previous non-virtuous actions. In this retreat we shall use the blessing power of Buddha Vajrasattva to cleanse our past negativity using the four opponent powers.

The retreat will start with a short talk on the Saturday morning followed by 5 days of unguided retreat. Each session lasts one and quarter hours and will include prayers ( we will use the Meditation and Recitation of Solitary Vajrasattva – Booklet.
