A meditation tool kit

A 3 week course –  starting Wednesday 12th January 7.30 – 8.45pm

A 3 week course for the New Year to capitalise on those good intentions! 

We will look at what exactly is meditation, what are it’s benefits and how to establish a meditation practice. As our happiness comes from mental peace and we generate mental peace through meditation we can see how important meditation is for everyone.

As Venerable Geshe-la says in the Mirror of Dharma with Additions,

“We want to be happy all the time, even during sleep. How can we do this? We can do this through training in meditation because meditation makes our mind peaceful, and when our mind is peaceful we are happy all the time, even if our external conditions are poor. On the other hand, when our mind is not peaceful we are not happy, even if our external conditions are excellent. We can understand this through our own experience. Since the actual method to make our mind peaceful is training in meditation, we should apply effort to this training. Whenever we meditate, we are performing an action or karma that causes us to experience peace of mind in the future. From this we can understand the importance of training in meditation.”

19th January – Week 2: Contemplation and concentration

26th January – Week 3: Establishing a meditation practice

Attending & booking

You can drop in to the class each week, the cost is  £7.00 or by block booking the whole course in advance it is a reduced price of £15.

Alternatively you can purchase a Centre Card for £20/month (you can cancel anytime) which gives you free access to weekday classes.

The general structure of the class:

  • The classes are organised as short courses, usually around 4 weeks long
  • You can attend the whole course or simply drop in whenever you can as each class is self-contained
  • Practical teaching on meditation and aspects of positive thinking
  • Guided meditation including relaxation
  • Advise on how to put the teachings into practise in daily life.
